http://jodyferlaak.blogspot.com/2009/11/merry-early-christmas-to-you.html Merry {early!} Christmas to you! http://jodyferlaak.blogspot.com/2009/11/merry-early-christmas-to-you.html

Christmas is going to be here before we know it and I have something fun to share with you to make the gift-giving part of Christmas easier, more fun and personable too! My very talented and creative friends, Kayla Aimee and Wilna F. have teamed up and are offering an online DIY Holiday Workshop. It offers so much inspiration as well as free downloads for creating projects and also gives you ideas for making everyone on your list gifts this year. They have this to say about their class (here's a link to the online classroom so you can see more for yourself!):

"Our goal for the class was to truly make it a DIY holiday. We've repurposed sweaters into armwarmers and baby leggings, ornaments into centerpieces and made sure that ease and affordability went hand in hand with high quality homemade gifts. We've even included some easy craft you can do with your kids!"

There will be more than 25 projects covered in this class, which starts on November 15th. Feel free to stop over to the classroom/website and see some more sneak peeks of the projects they will be creating as well as find answers to any questions you may have about this class. I am taking it myself and am so ready to spend a couple of extra weeks this year celebrating Christmas- it's such a special holiday. I am also excited to offer each of you the chance to win a spot in this online class. KA and Wilna are letting me give away a spot to one of you lucky Nitty.Gritty. readers. Just post a comment telling me one of your favorite Christmas gifts or holiday dish that you love and a winner will be chosen on Monday! Merry early Christmas to one of you! =)

{By the way, doesn't Kayla Aimee have great hair?! She will laugh at me for posting that...but it's so true. Love you, KA! You too, Wilna!}

oh my goodness, how did i get so behind... again? in the busyness of daily life, my poor blog has been one of the back burner items lately. we've been keeping very busy getting ready for stan's upcoming deployment and spending as much family time as possible together. So here is my week in review... starting with the cushy kissing reindeer slippers from target's dollar section. who knew slippers could be such fun?!

    306/365
my wild little pumpkin princess with one of her self-thought-out poses after school. :)

    305/365
torrey and daddy snuggling up on the couch for a daddy/daughter moment. she's going to have a bit of a hard time when he goes, i think. not that it doesn't have its effect on all of us, but this age for torrey seems to be ushering in the beginning of the tween changes for her... and daddy seems to have a magical way of teaching and growing her up. let me just say a special prayer of thanks to the person who invented the webcam!

    304/365
darn daylight savings time messing with my natural light options! lol. so there may be two dozen more pictures of my christmas tree as i come into the end of the year! loving that lensbaby creative aperture deal, though.

    303/365
can i just take a minute to say how much i love my husband? for the amazing man who will do just about anything {even wear green tights} for his girls... i'm pretty sure there's a special place in heaven for that man! we spent halloween night running around our usual stops visiting my parents, grandparents, great uncle, and friends from church as the neverland family - peter pan, wendy, john and tinkerbell. the man in green tights survived the whole ordeal and earned himself some serious points with his house full of estrogen!

    302/365
being a little behind and backwards on our holidays, we didn't get to the pumpkin patch until the day before halloween. after school on friday, we rushed home and changed the girls out of their costumes and into some regular clothes for a quick jaunt to the pumpkin patch. (hence the eye makeup on emma.) the girls searched the muddy patch for their perfect pumpkins. i have a bunch more pictures here. it was definitely a very fallish day with the leaves whirling around in the wind. makes coming home to carve them with hot apple cider that much more special, though.

now i've gotta zip off to help with a veterans day project at the school! ah, the perfectly content and busy life of a mom. i wouldn't have it any other way!

http://www.shimelle.com/paper/625/stickers-and-scrapbook-pages Stickers and scrapbook pages! [5] http://www.shimelle.com/paper/625/stickers-and-scrapbook-pages wedding scrapbook page
©twopeasinabucket.com. Supplies: Making Memories patterned paper, Hero Arts stamp with Ranger Distress Ink, stickers by Making Memories and Narratives, square tag maker edges, Heidi Swapp clear die cuts, Fiskars border punch and Tia’s Toy Camera Frames on the small photos. The pink doilies are paper coasters for drinks that I found in a 100yen store in Tokyo and I have been rationing them for perfect projects ever since!

Every year or possibly every season someone says ‘stickers are on their way out’. Well, if stickers are ever not cool, I don’t want to be cool. I love the variety available and that they don’t just have to be stuck down… it is far more fun to layer them, ink them, cut them apart, sew them together and all manner of sticky things.

This month’s garden is filled with sticker layouts, which makes me a very happy and inspired scrapper. I loved making this layout with its sticker sandwiches (well, that’s what I call it anyway…two stickers with lots of stuff in between!) and the stamped pattern over the patterned paper. SJ took these not-quite-trash the dress photos for me and I can’t explain how much fun it was to get dressed up in wedding gear again and walk along the beach. And now I have a big stack of those photos to scrap…so you will likely be sick of them soon.

Of course there are more sticker layouts from the other Garden Girls! My favourites include this white on white action by Tia, the always adorable Jen Johner, a crazy amount of cute from Mary, border stickers gone supersweet by Caroline, digital stickers with Sheri and this just perfectly perfect layout by Nichol.

So…stickers: cool or uncool? What’s your vote?

http://feedproxy.google.com/%7Er/LittleCornerOfAnia/%7E3/6_GP3JYosnU/better-but-not-quite-there.html ~~ Better but not quite there… ~~ http://feedproxy.google.com/%7Er/LittleCornerOfAnia/%7E3/6_GP3JYosnU/better-but-not-quite-there.html And that’s the last statement you’re gonna get from me when it comes to how I feel right now. I’m really trying to fight against my innate needs to just feel.sorry.for.myself. but that’s boring to read about so there!

Good news is that I felt good enough to scrap the other day..which meant the whole stay-at-home-and-be-sick-thing became a little more bearable for me :p So. I made a card for a person whose party is tonight but because I’m not entirely well enough (+ the reg. babysitter is sick herself :p) I’m gonna stay at home w/the kids. Jeje.

The card had to be large enough to cover a giftcard, which was sorta huge. The dimensions are 10x4,5”. Played around w/corrugated cardstock, glimmermist, cracklepaint (peeled paint..loves!) a sheet of Fancy Pants Journal book (Summer Soiree) and small leftoverpieces I had on my desk – like some Hambly transparencies & kraft stickers (love the sparrow..and the edge-stickers peeking from the rose), piece of lovely Jenni Bowlin gold rubons I’ve saved like, forever… a sheet of K&Co shaped minibook..letters from some old Heidi Swapp alphabets (love the alphas, HATE the socalled “adhesive” on them tho).

I especially love how this flower turned out. I read about this on the CK blog a while ago – credit goes to Tia Bennett on how to make this awesome cute&simple flower. I love how this 3ndypapir pattern sort of fits these kind of flowers – I had a scrap of that paper I couldn’t make myself throw away – now it’s turned into these kind of flowers dashed w/a lil glimmermist (Iridescent Gold). Here it rests on a piece of Making Memories glitterflower, whose color matches the dotty Hambly kraftsticker perfectly.

Some more closeups…..did I mention I love this kraft-sparrow from Hambly?? And the lush gold rubons from Jenni Bowlin…….mm… I painted the K&Co minialbum-sheet w/gesso and drybrushed aqua on it, before spraying glimmermist (Iridescent Gold goes to anything!) over it. When dry I rubbed the rubons on the top and painted the edges heavily w/cracklepaint.

This post is already huge, but I just have to add the photos of my little girlie who kept me company today. No, she’s not sick, just had a day off kindergarten because of some planning-stuff. So, as my dear son told me last night “You’re gonna have some girlietime together!!”. Uh yeah.

Girlietime = me taking photos of her…cause I’ve been missing taking photos!! And I’ve been missing the amazing weather we have atm (just my luck – sunny and lovely outside when I’ve been inside sick).

"Wait, I forgot something!" she said. And returned with her sunglasses.
Hum yeah. I sort of made her wear that tutu. She’ll thank me for that later.
    Sorta. Hush.

Struggled somewhat w/the wb here. Hm. Looks a bit bland no? This was in the shade of the house – with WB put to shade. Had to correct the wb slightly postproduction though.

I read that some photographers become sad when their children learns to automatically put on their “cameraface” once they reach for their cameras. I totally get them. She loves to pose, and while mommy thinks she’s still cute mommy’s got lots of these kind of photos so mommy tries to snap away especially when she’s between poses.

Right now she’s sitting next to me on her own pc singing along to Regina Spektor. *love*

I bought her this tutu last Christmas. She doesn’t really like it. She refused to wear it the first four-five months?? Sigh. But hey…she’s growing so fast – one day it’ll be too late for her to put on a tutu sorta (heaven knows it’s way too late for me *cough*) so….believe me, it’s for her own good – now she has some photos of herself in a tutu! :p

I edited this photo of Amalie then went back to the original SOOC-piccie (bottom) and thought. Hm. The SOOC piccie is indeed good. Yet I spend a few more minutes each piccie, trying to find a better way to edit it. Like. Why do I insist on spending so much time editing when I really need to just cut down the time editing? I dunno. I think part of the fun lies in the postprocessing too. To see what you can do with the negative (SOOC). It’s…sort of fun :)

    Have a nice weekend :)

    http://allisonrdavis.blogspot.com/2009/11/halloween-recap.html Halloween Recap http://allisonrdavis.blogspot.com/2009/11/halloween-recap.html
We carved pumpkins. Drew was so happy that he had graduated from goo scooper to pattern poker. I still maintained the responsibility of carving queen. (Yes, I used scrapbooking adhesives to attach the pattern. I couldn't find the regular tape. Mike suggested running out to get some. I laughed and said, "Are you kidding me!?!")

Drew really did a great job and was so proud of his work. I was too!

After we tag teamed the first one I then made the mistake of telling Drew that he could pick out whatever pattern he wanted me to carve from the book. Of course he went straight to the super difficult section.

The next day we made ghost cookies for Drew's daycare friends. These were easy enough that Drew could make them all by himself. He mostly stuck to the eyes which were mini-chocolate chips. About every 10 seconds I heard, "Uh oh! This one melted. I better eat it."

When it came to costumes we knew long ago what Drew wanted to be. He scored a pair of Buzz Lightyear pajamas that he went crazy over. We took it as a sign that since he refused to take the pajamas off for three days that Buzz would be the costume of choice this year.

Drew was a little disappointed that he had to wear tennis shoes instead of official Buzz Lightyear boots. He finally accepted them when I said they were magic shoes. I love that kids will believe pretty much anything we tell them.

Since one character of Toy Story was already covered...

Meet Woody. Well, the slightly shorter and chubby version anyway. So chubby, in fact, that the middle set of buttons on Jackson's costume refused to stay buttoned. It was hilarious.

First up on the trick or treating map, Scrapbook Generation.

The men were, obviously, excited about that.

Then we were off to hit the town with Drew's best bud. Usually we would take the boys to our hometowns and visit family but Drew insisted that we go with his girl. I'm glad we did because they had a blast!

Jackson mostly enjoyed the trick or treating festivities from his stroller. This always-on-the-go little guy has turned his stroller into a leash with wheels. He refused to sit and enjoy the ride and instead walks as we push. (We get a lot of laughs from strangers.)

To sum up a super long post, we had a great Halloween! (and hope you did too!)

P.S. The number one lesson I learned over the Halloween weekend...don't watch Ghost Hunters alone.
    :)

I spent a little creative time this afternoon playing with my new stamp set this afternoon! Designing this plate was so fun, I really wanted it to be playfully quirky but also inspiring and useful.

I pulled out a bunch of my delicious October Afternoon paper and had a lot of fun making these! They are all sized at 3" wide by 6" tall, a great card size in my opinion. I think this group of cards would make a fantastic little gift. Who can't use a little encouragement?

I would like to give one of these away, leave me a comment just to say hi by midnight on Monday night and I will randomly select someone to send it to!

    Good luck!

She makes me love jean jacket weather even more than I already do.
She has the most perfect color brown eyes and light brown hair a girl could ask for.
Her wink is cute and so is her smirk.
I can not imagine waking up in the morning and not getting a hug from her.
She got her first report card from kindergarten. It had lots of these on it: S+.
Her attitude can turn a day around- and sometimes it does several spins a day!
She could live on macaroni and cheese. I sometimes feel like letting her do so.
She is loud. Almost 100% of the time. I can't help but find that endearing. About 2% of the time.
I love her no matter what.
    She knows it.
    Lucky, little girl.

And well. Being sick and home apparently means I remember that I actually have children, in the sense that looking in Lightroom I can’t find any piccies of the kids (apart from once when I asked Amalie to help me w/holding a project for me) for a whole month until I imported these piccies. One whole month without having taken any piccies of my own children. Duh. Total.Shame.On.Me.

    Anyways.

    Testing. Piccies.
Sort of thought the layout in the prev. post was a bit muddy when I downscaled it, hence it’s in full size in the prev post. Need to test it further. And show that I actually do have children. Or something like that.

I was awake for like two hours on Halloween. Had to snap a few piccies of the kids :)

(Ok I’m lying now. I was awake for however long it took to watch Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire w/the kids). (Yes Adrian is borrowing my old slr. My hopes is that he’ll be interested in photography. So far no luck. Amalie’s reeeeally interested in being in front of the camera though.)

Love that the kids still love to play together. Yesterday they turned half the living-room into their own house.

(Amalie is running towards the camera yelling “Lemme see!! Lemme see!”)

Ok. Testing three things atm. Diff. ways to display the piccies (loves! So easy!), scheduling and the overall sharpness/muddiness of the piccies when published (prob just me who’s messing around).

    What else?
I’m soooo excited about Lightroom 3.0!!! I particulary noticed this bit: “state-of-the-art-noisereducer” – sounds oh so fancy and hopefully awesome! (Oh, and that the Boutwells are working on some presets for Lightroom. O.o)

My layout about Eli actually won the contest “Scrapping the Music – på norsk” had for Knutsen & Ludvigsens “Dum & Deilig”. I’m just delighted I actually was able to join one of their contests…K&L ruler (one of the best concerts I’ve been to was their reunion-concert w/DumDumBoys ♥♥♥)…. Whee, thank you so much!! :)

Not gonna complain about how sick I am – I’m all about positive thoughts & am hoping by the time this post hits the Internet I’m feeling good enough to actually scrap some!! (don’t you hate it when you’re like, feeling you should have been able to do a zillion things all at once but only manage to do….nada? :( )

First, I want to thank everyone who left such sweet and supportive comments, I really appreciate you my friends!

Second, I wanted to share this layout of Chloe. She is such a hard worker with incredible dreams, and I want her to remember how important it is to believe in herself and her dreams when things get tough. It didn't photo very well, but you get the idea. Tons of shimmer mist, silver paint dabbers, glittered alphas and Zva Creative bling. It is so pretty IRL!

And last, I have a new stamp set that was released yesterday! I have made a few things with this set, but they are in for publication so I need to get to work making more. But please go visit Lisa Silver's blog, she created a card that I just love! I promise I will get one done too, hers is so inspiring, I feel like stamping right now and it is almost midnight. It will have to wait until tomorrow though, just so tired!

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful week. We are here, the weather is the perfect jeans and sweater temperature, my fav!

WOW, what a day!!!  We spent 4 hours today touring (and hiking) around the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics... the long jump, freestyle, louge, bobsled... what an AMAZING facility... and better yet... the US Team was practicing while we were there! We were standing about 2 feet away from the athletes as they FLEW by at over 80 miles per hour... THAT TOTALLY ROCKED!!!  Again, I don't have photo editing, but I wanted to share these pics I was able to get of Anna and Jeff watching a run at Curve 6... there was some SERIOUS SPEED!

It's quite the feat as it involves getting myself and the kidlets ready to go when she shows up at 7:10 am! We went to the Hitchin' Post in Molalla and stayed for about an hour and a half. Mickey had bacon and eggs and toast and I had water ... and one of his pieces of bacon and his leftover eggs and toast edges. LOL!

About 10:00, I put Audrey down for her nap and then took one myself. Apparently Mickey thought that this was the thing to do as he put himself down for one, too!

i do get bored with them ... anyhow, i used up some to accessorise my pearls. not that i wear them though !
those awesome colored ribbons are from Pebbles Inc.

    One layout using Pebbles Inc

here's another layout using Banana Frog and Rose Moka.
i used dry embossing and glitter around the photo. my Tutorial write up can be found > Here

and Yes, i'm still very much into yellow - Still...

and a sneaky using Graphic 45 and the Bind It All...

and some miscellaneous stuff... i'm trying very hard to use up what i have lying around.

AND LOVING IT!  Our 2,100 square foot condo is INCREDIBLE...the weather is UNBELIEVABLE... and we are enjoying our first vacation with just little Anna.  The teens are back at home... they were busy with work and school and thanks to our FANTASTIC neighbors and friends (Hi, Tom and Sandy), Jess and Chris could stay at home and take care of business.  I am using Jeff's laptop at the moment and he doesn't have photo editing software on this thing, so I will post pics when we get home... here is one that I just had to post... it is so simple, but comfy bathrobes hanging in your vacation closet... ahhhh... heaven!!!

Yesterday, I did a digi Christmas layout. It was fun to do digi for a change. I pulled some photos from last Christmas and whipped it together.

    Xmas

I used the November Page Maps sketch. 95% of the product came from Crystal Wilkerson's Vintage Candy Cane kit sold here.

Doing that layout really made me excited for Christmas!! But, we gotta do Thanksgiving first, which I love.

So, do you brine your turkey? We've been brining our turkey's for the last 5 years, and it makes a world of difference. They seem to brown better AND they are so super juicy. Mmmm... now I want turkey! We're doing Thanksgiving here and the in-laws are coming over. My MIL was worried that I'd be tired, but really, I enjoy cooking. Like I said the other day, I was bored so I made the carrot cake, which turned out sooo super yummy!! I took a photo for you!

    carrot cake

I'm sorry the photo is a bit dark, but gese, it gets so dark now with the time change!! This cake is soooo super moist. I put raisins in it rather than nuts because my son is allergic to nuts. Yum, yum!

Well, I'm off to get ready for my lunch date. I know it's early, but I'm afraid the traffic into Pittsburgh will be horrific, as it usually is.

    Have a great day!!

    Uh yeah.

Still sick – but now I’m at least able to be awake most of the time and like, being bored to death because I don’t know what to do (well, I’ve got a lot to do but..) and my head constantly hurts and my throat’s got a nice little farm of cactuses growing inside of them and my attentionspan is non-excistent and bleh bleh bleh *feeling so.so.sorry for herself* Right now I can’t decide wheter to read (think I’ll save it for tonight), watch Gossip Girl (got so many eps to catch up! And HEY where’s House!?? Hasn’t been a new ep in a forever, grrrr!!!) or finish the card I have to finish within friday (should prob do that one first).

But no. Instead I figured I’d test out this Windows Live Writer thingie which Xstine wrote about (wohoo…it’ll allow you to do target = blank without having to type the code in manually – bonus!), see if it’s anything for me and stuff…I like the WYSIWYG layout so far…let’s see if it’s any good publishing and stuff too.

    So.

Forgot to share the last Pencil-Lines layout. Me and Kine and her übercool insta-fun-in-a-box! :) With Kine I just had to use these Prima-papers.cutecutecute :)

Right. Time to do something. Other than feeling sorry for myself and stuff. BLeh.

    Stay safe & healthy…this sucks!

    "Watcha doin' Mama?", Drew says.

    "Working."

"Can I work too?", he asks.

"Not right now, sweetie. This is something Mama has to have done quickly for a class."

A few seconds pass and when Drew discovers that his sad little pouty face isn't working,

    "Mama?"

    "Yes, Drew?"

"I think for Christmas I'm going to ask Santa for Scooby Doo movies AND scrapbooking stuff. I bet he'll get the scrapbooking stuff because I'll tell him you don't share."

    Ouch.

Now before you think I'm mean, stingy mommy, trust me I'm not. When it comes to play scrapbooking I love having Drew sit with me and letting him join in on the whole process. Which reminds me of this layout:

Drew had started actually forming shapes and pictures with his drawings instead of just scribbling. I really wanted to do a layout featuring some of my favorite pieces of his artwork when suddenly the light bulb switched on. What could possibly be better that using his artwork as a background too? So I handed him two 12 x 12 white sheets of cardstock and a handful of crayons. He loved it!

A lot of times I pre-plan my layouts but for this one I waited until he was done drawing and arranged everything around his designs. I also kept the patterned paper to a minimum because I didn't want it to overshadow his cute drawings. I even used a circle he drew as space for the journaling.

It ended up being one of the most fun layouts I've ever created. There isn't a whole lot to the layout, it's pretty simple but knowing that we both created it together makes it special.

The two cards that I have to share today are so me. Yep, lots of flourishes and flowers.

This first one uses a Hambly rubon and transparency, Prima stamps and Prima pearls. I think it kind of has a french feel to it. ;)

Lately, I just can't get enough of these big Prima flowers. I love the color on this one. I paired it with some Basic Grey Indian Summer papers and a smaller trellis rose. I added glitter to them by spraying a bit of spray adhesive and drizzling on the glitter. I used another Hambly frame and more Prima pearls. The sentiment was stamped on the inside.

My little guy is still making up work from all of the school he missed last week. Did I tell you he had Swine Flu? Luckily, that's behind us and, knock on wood, we didn't catch it from him... Anyway, gotta' go and help him finish a couple of things.

Thanks, as always for stopping by!

I trust you are having a super week so far??? I know I am *evil laugh* because the weather here today was fabulous. I am happy to say that today I had my first swim of the season, and as a notoriously cold-water-ninny, it is a serious feat for me...seriously! It is times like this that I don't regret for one instant the money we spent on installing heating panels on the garage roof to warm the pool water. Our pool was as warm as a bath (well not quite as warm maybe :o) & heavenly. Oh don't get me wrong...the big day was mine alone because the kids have been swimming for weeks. I, on the other hand am one to avoid torture where ever possible hehe!

Anyway...today I thought I catch up on sharing some pubbed pages from some months back, they happen to be mostly with Pink Paislee products too :o).

This one was in the July SB Trends...how cute is that kid???? I had fun creating my own background paper for this one.

This one was in the Sept/Oct issue of Memory Makers. Many thanks to Michelle for the digi kit I used to create the skull paper & embellishment.

This page was also for Memory Makers....this Pink Paislee paper collection was perfect for Laurens wedding pics. I love how 3D the ribbon & flower looked.

Well that's it for today...I have some super news to share but not today!!!
    So watch this space.
    Have a goodie!!!

The Zva Creative Design Team was announced, and I am thrilled to be included amongst that talented group of artists. I will be getting all of their information onto my sidebar, I hope you take a few minutes to go visit them, I think you will be impressed as well!

I was also sent an email today letting me know that I was a winner in the "Love" category of the World Card Making Day contest that Paper Crafts sponsored. I wish I could show you that card, so cute! But instead I am sharing the other card that I sent in. This card just makes me so happy when I look at it. It is totally wacky, but it makes me smile!

And I was invited to participate in the Ranger CHA 2010 Designer Challenge. That is going to be so much fun! Looking forward to getting the details on that, but I love making a mess, and this will be a great way to get a good one going!

A few things in my life have been pretty challenging, and without going into sticky details let's just say that I have a heart that hurts from it all. So I feel very blessed that my Heavenly Father has given me some wonderful opportunities to balance it out on the other side. I do believe that it really helps you appreciate the wonderful things that happen when you have the hard knocks too. So often it seems that things are so easy for others, but it is because we usually only see the surface. Everyone has tough times to endure, so if you are going through something similar, try to find the bright spots and really focus and appreciate those instead. It really makes me feel better when I do that, hope it works for you too!

Attitude of Gratitude going on here...

Here is my favorite page from the bunch about my favorite summer dress of Second Child. I really love this layout, more than anything, it's because I really love these photos! I am grateful for this crazy obsessive scrapbooking hobby as it makes me take pictures nonstop! Sometimes I get a few that I really cherish like these...

Also, this month at the Prism blog, we will be displaying projects that "give thanks." My little card kicked off today. Stop by to take a look, thank you and good night/day!

http://www.shimelle.com/classes/624/an-online-class-for-the-holidays-journal-your-christmas An online class for the holidays :: Journal your Christmas [38] http://www.shimelle.com/classes/624/an-online-class-for-the-holidays-journal-your-christmas online scrapbooking class :: Journal your Christmas

With the calendar turned over to November, it’s going to get more and more difficult to ignore that the holidays will be upon us…so perhaps it’s best to stop ignoring and start embracing the Christmas season! After all, the shops already have aisles filled with Christmas chocolates and stocking stuffers, so it must nearly be time to celebrate!

online scrapbooking class :: Journal your Christmas

It’s something that started small. One year it was just me and my pen and my book, trying to take back Christmas and rediscover my love of the holiday after a few years when Christmas lacked a certain sparkle. The second Christmas, I shared the idea with a small group of crafty friends, just to see if this reclaiming idea was something that made sense outside of my head. It did. And from there, Journal your Christmas became an online class that I shared with the rest of the world. And by ‘rest of the world’, I mean if we just found an Antarctic explorer who fancied taking part, we would have Christmas journallers from every continent.

This is the most magical time of the year, and Journal your Christmas lets you keep that magic for years to come.

online scrapbooking class :: Journal your Christmas

Every year, Journal your Christmas includes daily prompts from the 1st of December to the 6th of January, the twelfth day of Christmas. The 37 illustrated PDF files are delivered straight to your inbox so you can read them over your first cup of coffee and mull over each topic for a full day. There’s also an archive of the class materials online in case you can’t get to your email or in case something dreadful happens to your computer. And like every year, you can go it alone or be as social as you like, with a private discussion forum where you’ll find other Christmas journallers who will cheer you on and share your excitement, but if you prefer to stick to the prompts only, that’s completely fine too. And like every year, if you’re participated once, you can join us every Christmas for as long as you like at no extra cost.

In addition to ideas for writing topics and styles and notes on photos not to miss, the 37 prompts include more than 300 scrapbook pages to inspire your crafting creativity.

Of course, every Christmas needs a little something new, so this year’s additions include:
…a guide to preparing your album this month so you can scrap through the busy schedule of December
…a printable Christmas planner to help keep things from getting crazy in the countdown to the big day
…new printable accents for paper scrappers
…a digital kit absolutely crammed full of papers, templates, overlays, lettering and embellishments designed just for the class
…a bonus workbook on getting the best photographs possible this Christmas, with advice and examples from dozens of professional photographers.
so there is plenty to keep things exciting whether this is your first Christmas journal or your fifth.

Like all online scrapbooking classes at shimelle.com, Journal your Christmas includes
…permanent access to all class materials
…private forum for discussion and sharing your work
…prompts delivered straight to your inbox
…ongoing membership — pay just once and participate as many years as you would like at no additional cost.

online scrapbooking class :: Journal your Christmas

Sign up now or gift a place to a friend as an early Christmas gift! You can pay in your choice of US Dollars or UK Pounds.

You can pay by credit/debit card (click on the left of the payment screen) or Paypal account (log in on the right of the payment screen). Please be sure to enter a valid email address as part of your payment so your prompts can be delivered to your inbox. Orders can take up to 24 hours to process, though we are usually quicker. If you haven’t received your class registration after 24 hours, just email me and we’ll make sure your registration is completed and ready for you to get started!

If you participated last year, you don’t need to do anything to join us again. In about a week you will receive an email with some updated info and reminders for you.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll share a few more sneaky looks at what you can expect this year, so keep your eyes open throughout November. (That’s this year’s cover in the first and last images.) Any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments and I’ll get right back to you with an answer! I can’t wait to get into the holiday spirit with new faces and alumni in this year’s class!

http://methodplayground.blogspot.com/2009/11/challenge-54-design-ideas-from.html Challenge 54 - Design Ideas from Magazines http://methodplayground.blogspot.com/2009/11/challenge-54-design-ideas-from.html really like me it's waaaaay too many magazines. And that doesn't even count the daily deluge of catalogs we're getting now that it's getting closer to Christmas.

So my challenge to you is a design challenge. Pick something from a magazine to inspire you, design-wise. It can be an ad or photo, a pattern, a color combination, a page design - whatever you like - and use it on a layout.

Here's what our team came up with:

    Deborah:
I chose to mimic the array of mushrooms in the above picture. However, I used Halloween embellishments to frame my photo, instead of text.

    Miwako:

I was inspired by a page of wedding catalog magazine. I love this colore, score and ribbon and feel so crassic and nostalgic. I use variouse ribbons in my layout and imagine cristimas decolation and gift package.

    Paloma:

For this challenge I chose to work little flags like the ones you see in fancy fairs and other such festive gatherings and that I keep finding in scrap layouts and magazines.
To hold them together, I chose a white thread/wire because it winds and unwinds nicely throughout the bubbles. Little flags, bubbles looking like white balloons everywhere: yes, this was a festive time... but hush now, the baby is asleep!

    Michelle:

I tore this ad from a boutique baby catalog several years ago and filed it away in my art inspiration binder. This week's prompt was the perfect excuse to finally work this into a layout. I was drawn to the playful circles and happy colors, and repeated both in my layout:

This page was done on a piece of duck cloth canvas prepped with gesso.

    Amanda:

I was inspired by pieces in the November/December 2009 Somerset Studio magazine. These pieces were wedding themed created with a neutral color scheme. I loved the color scheme applied to the theme, but wanted to create a more urban distressed look, instead of vintage look distressed look.

I will post a layout how-to on my blog after this pose goes live.

    Kimmy:

I was inspired by the back cover of my Crate & Barrel catalog. I loved the multicolored, layered circles & duplicated them with Glimmer Mist (which I rubbed on with a piece of felt). The ornaments inspired my Christmas theme & the vertical lines of the silverware inspired my title placement.

    Helga:

I used this page from an airline magazine. I was really struck by its color and page layout particularly the white space on top. I used these elements as my inspiration in creating my layout.
    Here is my take:

So break out your magazine stacks, rummage through your junk mail and see what inspires you! Post your creations here, and your inspiration piece, by Sunday night, November 15th to be considered for a RAK.

http://ericasdoingsomethingelse.blogspot.com/2009/11/i-got-my-halloween-scrap-on.html I Got My Halloween Scrap On! http://ericasdoingsomethingelse.blogspot.com/2009/11/i-got-my-halloween-scrap-on.html
Well, my craft on at least. ;) The night before Halloween I plopped myself down in our master and plopped the kids in the living room with Daddy.

    And, here's what I created. :)

First up, a sign for the trick-or-treaters (we did have some!) so that they wouldn't miss the basket of Play-doh by the front door. The paper is Pink Paislee, the black glitter letter stickers are American Crafts and the other black glitter stickers are Making Memories. I cut out a smaller piece of chipboard to adhere to the back to make the piece a little sturdier. I also adhered the ribbon to that piece. Oh, and you can't really see but their is a line drawn from the letter E in ONE to the spider. :)

The other project I did was actually finishing up one I'd started AGES ago! I'd already painted the letters black and cut out and rounded the corners of the patterned paper but hadn't done anything else. So, I dug out my Shimmerz mist and went to town. I sprayed the base of the door hanger with Concrete Shimmerz and the letters with that, too. Once they dried, I inked the edges of the chipboard (actually an accordian mini book from Maya Road) and the edges of the paper (from Scenic Route). I then glued the letters to the paper and mounted the paper on the chipboard with foam adhesive. I used my Crop-a-Dile to punch two holes at the top and tied the ribbon through them.
For final touch, I added some Mrs. Grossman's green gems to the letters.

So, there they are. My Halloween scrappiness! Hope you like them! :D

I just made a delicious homemade from scratch carrot cake! Mmmm, can't wait to ice it with cream cheese icing and dig in. Besides scrapping, I love to cook and bake. Cleaning... not so much, although I do that nesting thing once a month, ifyouknowwhatImean. ;) Although I do like a clean house. Thank goodness my hubby likes to use the vacuum and he sweeps. It's nice to have help.

This past weekend, I finished up my "pimped" bra for the Serendipity Scrapbooks Pimp Your Bra Contest. Finished just in time, too. I didn't add the photos yet because I made it about my breast cancer journey, and I'm only about a 1/3 of the way thru my journey. My good friend Michelle gave me a great suggestion about it because I kept saying I wish I could fast forward to May, when I'll be all done... she said think of it as a pregnancy and that I'm done with my first trimester. What a great idea... so, only 2 more trimesters to go. Well, plus a week or two.

I titled it "Fight Like A Girl". Each back is painted black where I thought I could journal with a white pen.

    Here is the cover:

Well, that's it for me today. I think I'm going to make a Joanne's run and get me some yarn! Gotta knit myself a hat for my little bald pea head. Can't wear that wig all the time, and this little chemo sleeping cap I have has no substance, so I look like a pea head. I have a tiny head. I always knew I had a small head because I can fit into childrens helmets! LOL! I'm not a knitter, but I have loom! Hopefully, when I get done I'll share the photo with ya.

Have a great Monday! Take Care!

The younger set couldn't really play together yet, but they were starting to get curious about what each other was doing. The funny thing is, both #2s were so squeemish with the sand, gingerly circumventing their more boisterous older siblings and sitting quietly in their little sand pits.
    Here are the pics:

Well it got a little bit too much at the end and there was the famous meltdown... nothing a bottle of warm milk and a little nap couldn't solve!
